If you're heading to Portmore, on the far side of Kingston Harbour, the route runs through downtown and across the Causeway, adding another 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic. Kingston's roads carry more traffic and move faster than Montego Bay's tourist-district streets, so budget a little extra patience for your first drive out of the airport, especially during the weekday morning and evening rush.
If your itinerary includes both coasts, it's usually easier to fly into one airport and out of the other rather than drive the full length of the island twice, since Kingston and Montego Bay sit roughly three to four hours apart.
