Car Rental Deposit in Jamaica, Explained

Renting a car in Jamaica for the first time? The deposit question comes up more than almost anything else — and the answer depends entirely on which payment option you choose at checkout.

How Esteem's deposit works

When you book with Esteem, you choose how much you pay today:

• Pay Full — pay everything upfront and get 5% off your base rental rate. Nothing due at pickup.
• Pay Deposit — pay 15% of your total today to lock in the car. The remaining balance is due when you pick up the vehicle.
• Pay at Desk — pay $0 today. The full total (plus a small surcharge for holding the reservation without payment) is due at pickup.

There's no separate, additional "security deposit" hold on top of this — the 15% deposit is your reservation payment, not a refundable hold.

Which option should you choose?

If you already know your exact travel dates and don't need the flexibility, Pay Full is the best value — you lock in 5% savings and walk up to the counter with nothing owed. If you'd rather keep more cash on hand until you land, Pay Deposit gets you a confirmed booking for 15% down. Pay at Desk is the most flexible but the most expensive per day.

Returning customer? You get more back

If you've booked with Esteem before, a 5% loyalty discount is applied automatically once we recognize your email or phone at checkout — and it stacks with the Pay Full discount, so returning customers who pay in full save 10% off the base rate.

What you'll need at pickup

Whichever option you choose, bring a valid driver's licence, a credit card in the driver's name, and make sure you meet the age requirements shown at checkout — that's it. No hidden paperwork, no surprise line items.
